What the tale is about
Curled up by the window, Mestan the cat cleans his fur and inspires a child to notice the many forms of cleanliness in nature. The child realizes that, unlike Mestan, hands are sometimes forgotten before or after meals, while the cat carefully cleans his paws after eating. Grandmother talks about clean cats, and Grandfather explains that Allah created everything clean. From ladybugs and birds to flowers, rivers, rain, and clouds, the child sees the world with fresh appreciation and learns that Allah is Al-Quddus, the Most Pure. Clean hands, clothes, hearts, ablution, and caring for the surroundings all matter.
